shielded coupling

1. (UPC) an approved elastomeric sealing gasket with an approved outer shield and a tightening mechanism (UPC). 2. A mechanical coupling used to connect cast iron, steel, and plastic pipe. The components of a shielded coupling include a neoprene gasket, bi-directional shield, and interlocking clamps. Shielded fittings replace the use of traditional hub and spigot joints used for sanitary drains, storm drains, waste pipe, and vent piping. Also called No-Hub Fitting or "Hubless coupling".
