PEX

PEX stands for “cross-linked polyethylene”. PEX is a type of polyethylene tubing designed for water distribution pipe. The “X” in the term stands for cross-linking, which is a process that chemically changes the properties of the polyethylene to make it flexible and chemical resistant. PEX tubing systems are becoming a popular replacement for copper tubing systems used in homes for potable water distribution. The PEX tubing is installed with special compression type fittings. Some variations of PEX are made for radiant heating and under-floor piping.
