1. The enlarged end of a pipe that is sized to receive another pipe of the same diameter for the purpose of making a joint. Cast iron, PVC, and copper pipe are often manufactured with a hub on one end. Also called a "Bell" or "Bell End".
2. A stake used by surveyors and builders as a reference point for measuring elevations and horizontal dimensions. A surveyor may use a hub for marking theodolite positions.
