drying shrinkage
Categorized in Concrete
the contraction of concrete as it cures, caused by a loss of moisture.
Most concrete is mixed with more water than is needed for hydration. A lot of the remaining water evaporates causing the concrete mass to shrink and often crack. Drying shrinkage primarily occurs during the initial hardening process and the rapid water evaporation must be controlled with good curing practices.
