bright nail

a steel nail with no finish coating. Bright nails have a shiny appearance. Bright nails tend to rust easily when exposed to moisture.
Zinc is often used to finish nails to prevent rust. One type of finish is called "electro-galvanized". Electro-galvanized nails are less likely to rust than unfinished nails (bright nails). Heavier zinc-coated nails, "hot-dipped galvanized nails," are even less likely to rust.
