bleeding, concrete
the autogenous (internally produced) flow of mixing water within, or its emergence from, freshly placed concrete or mortar. Bleeding occurs when the solid materials settle in the fresh concrete mass and excess water migrates to the surface.
Concrete bleeding, or bleed water, is observed as excess water on the surface of concrete flatwork after initial floating or finishing. Excessive bleed water is an indication that too much water was mixed in the concrete initially or added at the job site.
Prolonged or excessive bleeding can cause serious efflorescence to appear later on the hardened concrete surface.
Also called "water gain".
