1. An attachment used to resist the movement of a structural member resulting from overturning, sliding or uplift. Tie-downs and hold-downs are used to resist overturning and uplift. Anchor bolts resist sliding. 2. In postentioning concrete, a device used to anchor the tendons to a concrete member. 3. In pretensioning, a device used to anchor tendons during the hardening of the concrete. 4. In cast-in-place concrete, the securing of reinforcing bars by bends, embedment length, and hooks.
