Knotch

The correct spelling is "notch", which refers to a V-shaped cut, nick or indentation in something such as a board.

The origination of the spelling "knotch" is unknown but could come from confusion with the spelling of "Knot" which is actually a dark swirl on the surface of a board where a branch was located on the tree that the board was cut from.

The Editor has been know to use "knotch" instead of "notch", but we are not aware of any such usage on this website other than occurs on this page.
